I recently wrote that “stay-at-home moms need a job description.” Well, guess what? According to this article in the Wall Street Journal http://online.wsj.com/article_email/SB120951025037054311-lMyQjAxMDI4MDA5NDUwMTQwWj.html prospective employers are discovering multi-talented women in the most unlikely places They are finding these capable ladies on the playgrounds and at PTA meetings. There are staffing firms specializing in finding work for stay-at-home moms. Not just clerical or data entry jobs, but high powered staffing firms seeking highly educated, “executive” type women.
The controversial topic of the Mommy Wars (those battles between women over whether to work or stay at home while raising children) has now morphed into what one woman labels the Mommy SWAT Team (smart women with available time).
Women have been conflicted for years about whether to utilize their intellects and talents by being a vital and vibrant part of the work force or whether to stay at home and nurture their children and give them the security of knowing they will be there for them. It is a tough choice, and most of us find it impossible to be in a comfort zone with both of these ideals. So for some women, this seems to be a viable solution. They can stay home AND work with challenging and stimulating assignments. Of course they are not drawing the kinds of salaries they could expect to earn in the real world. But it’s a start. Another tiny little victory in our constant quest for equality.

Interesting! I'll bet stay at home mom's can contribute value added business skills as well as management skills and feel rewarded by work and childern!
Hopefully industry will pick up on this and payment will equal value added!
i was not a stay at home mom because I had to have the full time income but if I had an alternative I think I would have enjoyed staying home, although I have always thought that being with my kids all day and all night was the harded job I had!
This internal tug of war with our hearts and conscience about working vs. staying at home to nurture offspring will always be with us. It's wonderful to know there are viable solutions. Thank you for keeping us up to date on this very important issue. It's all about interconnectedness and contribution. Thank you for keeping us informed.

The stay-at-home Moms that I know are smart, dedicated, and honest. I'm glad to see that companies are finally starting to see that they can be the perfect employees!
Saundra, Love, Love, Love this article. I think this is the wave of the future and that we'll see much more of this coming in the next five years. It's so exciting for our children...especially our daughters who will be mothers some day and will hopefully not be having these discussions because looking for "options" will be a mute point =-) Thanks for sharing this inspiring study!

But you notice, part of the reason that they're desired is because they work for much less than a full-time career person with the same skills. So yet again, the skills of the SAHM/SWAT are discounted. How about giving them full pay for full work? This article, to me, reinforces the popular notion that a SAHM's time is worth less than it is for working people.
